Batik is a heritage not only belongs to Malaysia, but also to several places in the world. However, Terengganu Batik is unique with its own identity. Therefore, at SUTERAMAS, we honor this historical craft with hiring the best artisans in Terengganu.

Batik (pronunciation: [ˈba.teʔ], but often, in English, is [ˈbæ.tɪk] or [bəˈtiːk]) is a wax-resist dyeing technique used on textile. Batik is found in several countries of West Africa, such as Nigeria, Cameroon and Mali, and in Asia, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran and Thailand. Of Malaysia, it is the state of Terengganu that is considered as "the Malaysian mecca for Batik".

Batik pieces and materials are bases to make the Malay traditional dress, Baju Kurung. Baju Kurung that fits normal sizes requires 4 meters in length and 45 inches in width of fabric. Our pieces and materials for Custom-Made come in this measurement, unless others are mentioned.

"..He'd have slung on his shoulder, by then, a long strip of east coast regulatory wear, the batik lepas, of hand-painted local cloth that made a head gear or body wrap on a rainy day, or simply just a handy bit of all purpose material." - Awang Goneng in Growing Up In Trengganu
